Player Profile
WIDE RECEIVERS & DEFENSIVE BACKS

Frank Gonzalez

is in his third year as a member of the Cantwell staff. A Cantwell Alumni and former

Receiver and Defensive Back for the Cardinals. Gonzalez was a two year letterman in Football and Track. He returned to his Alma Mater in 2006 as the Freshman and JV Receiver and Defensive Back Coach. He established himself as an excellent position coach as well as an outstanding evaluator of talent.

In his first year on the job, Gonzalez worked closely with Head Coach Richard Angel Sr., Offensive Coordinator Ernie Duran and Defensive Coordinator Richard Angel Jr. to help develop the Cardinals lower programs. The Cardinals won the 2006 JV Camino Real Championship and 10-1 at the Freshman level.

Gonzalez has moved up to Varsity for the 2007 season to coach the Receivers and Defensive Back and also has taken over the Strength and Conditioning program.

Prior to his return to Cantwell, Gonzalez has spent the last 17 years coaching Youth Football for one of San Gabriel Valley’s most respected football programs, The East Los Angeles Bobcats.

Gonzalez’s first coaching position came in 1990 as a Receiver and Defensive Back coach. He spent ten years (1990-1999) as a position coach. In 1990 the Bobcats won the Midget Division Conference Champions.  In 1995 he was given the added responsibility of Defensive Coordinator. During the 1995 season the Bobcats had 5 shut outs and a playoff appearance.

In 2000, Gonzalez was given his first Head Coach Position. During his tenure, he has posted 4 playoff appearances, winning the 2001 Midget Division Conference Championship and League Championships in 2004 Gremlin Division, 2006 Pee Wee Division.

In the winter of 2006 Gonzalez stepped down as Head Coach of the Bobcats, to pursue his dream of coaching at his Alma Mater, however he will remain with the organization as a coach’s advisor.

Gonzalez was born and raised in East Los Angeles and attended St. Alphonsus School. He has one daughter Sydney, who is 9 years old.
